Sovereign debt tensions in 2011 have produced a growing gap between market expectations of sovereign debt restructurings. Official attention is on how such restructurings might be carried out with the least amount of disruption. This experience raises the question, “Is the global financial infrastructure adequate should sovereign debt restructurings become unavoidable?”
