The Future of Security Sector Reform is a joint project of the Global & Human Security Program (GHSP) at the Centre for International Governance Innovation (CIGI) and Governance Village (GV), a leading online governance knowledge network hosted at CIGI. A process that aims to transform the security and justice architecture of the state in post-conflict and transition states, SSR is now seen as a cornerstone of the peace-building and state-building agendas in countries ranging from Afghanistan and Iraq to East Timor and Bosnia. The project will chart the evolution of the SSR model, whose record of success has been mixed, challenging some of its basic principles and practices A public half-day workshop will launch the project on April 27th at CIGI, setting the stage for the project’s flagship initiative, an e-Conference to be held on May 4-8th. The virtual conference will assemble some of the world’s most prominent SSR practitioners and experts to debate the future of the concept. Featuring a range of multi-media materials this innovative medium will permit the sharing of knowledge and best practices across continents and disciplines.
