Dr. Stephen Clarkson, is the country's foremost academic authority on the Liberal Party of Canada. His book The Big Red Machine: How the Liberal Party dominates Canadian politics has just been published by UBC Press. His earlier monographs include Trudeau and Our Times; Uncle Sam and Us: Globalization, Neoconservatism, and the Canadian States; City Lib: Parties and Reform; and Canada and the Reagan Challenge: Crisis and Adjustment, 1981-1985. He currently directs a research program on the governance of North America.

A professor of political economy at the University of Toronto, Stephen Clarkson joined CIGI in 2002 as a senior fellow to work on North America’s governance problems. He is also a senior fellow at Massey College in Toronto and was the recipient of the Canada-US Fulbright Scholarship..
