Event Types
CIGI's Events team organizes and manages an extensive program of public and invitation-only events, workshops and conferences. International experts are invited to speak at CIGI-hosted events. Academics, scholars, policy makers, government officials and business leaders convene at events held at CIGI, elsewhere in Canada and abroad.
Book Launch
CIGI publishes numerous books each year on issues of global importance. The Book Launch Series premieres the Centre’s latest books and an introduction is given by the author(s)/editor(s). The launch reception allows guests to meet with the CIGI researchers, fellows and partners involved with the book and hear first-hand about the topic addressed. See Events
Cinema Series
CIGI’s cinematic events tie in film and documentaries on pressing global issues, both past and present, with commentary and discussion led by guest speakers to further explore the subject at hand. Often the film producers, actors, or real-life film subjects are at the screenings and available to answer questions before and after the film is screened. See Events
Community Event
CIGI’s over arching theme for community events is “Thinking Globally, Acting Locally.” CIGI is proud to be a part of its’ local community by providing quality programming and events that resonate within the community including concerts, community celebrations, performances and multicultural activities for all ages. Conference
CIGI hosts conferences and workshops year round bringing together experts to discuss pertinent governance related issues. Conferences and symposiums on an international scale have been held on six continents. Each year at its Canadian headquarters, CIGI hosts its signature conference, which draws more than 200 leading international experts to CIGI's headquarters in Waterloo. The conference is attended by CIGI’s International Advisory Board of Governors on an issue of international concern. See Events
Noon Lecture Series
Our Noon Lecture Series brings distinguished academics and practitioners from across the globe to CIGI to present and discuss their latest research. This format allows for an interactive question and answer session between the audience and the presenter. See Events
Panel Discussion
To highlight various points of view of complex issues , panel discussions or debates are periodically held before a live audience that is encouraged to participate. High profile experts are invited to CIGI to share their knowledge with a live audience and these discussion are often connected via webcast to various national or international locations to further participation and viewpoints and enliven the dialogue. Signature Lecture
Evening public lectures are presented monthly on important international topics to raise public awareness and understanding of a variety of current global issues. This series features some of the most prominent and acclaimed researchers and figures in the international relations field. See Events
Workshop
CIGI hosts weekly workshops with smaller groups of 15-40 people to open up dialogue on specific research topics. Often these workshops will run in a series with one of CIGI’s research working groups forming the foundation for the discussion . Others are held in advance of larger global symposiums. See Events
