2006/2007 Donner Prize Winner Announced

Compelling book (by CIGI Chair Helleiner) wins $35,000 and argues Canada Unlikely to Abandon the Loonie

TORONTO: The winner of the prestigious Donner Prize, the award for best book on Canadian public policy, was announced this evening by Allan Gotlieb, Chairman of the Donner Canadian Foundation, at an awards dinner at the Carlu. This is the ninth year for this acclaimed prize, which is awarded annually.

Experts Warn IMF Might Be "Slipping into Obscurity," Offer Options for Reform

Helleiner and Momani paper is the lead study in a series of four published simultaneously by CIGI on the existing and future role of the IMF

Waterloo, Canada - The International Monetary Fund (IMF) is unlikely to emerge from a looming budget crisis and threats to its legitimacy without serious reforms. At the same time, there is much potential in the Fund focusing on a more prominent surveillance role, in being more flexible in the advice it gives, and in working more collaboratively with other institutions in carrying out its lending and crisis-management roles. These are the key conclusions of a working paper released today by CIGI (Centre for International Governance Innovation).

CIGI Senior Researcher Hany Besada Remarks on Oxford Workshop on Peace Building and Corruption

Waterloo, Canada - Building upon his work on African economic issues, CIGI Senior Resaercher Hany Besada has written a narrative account that summarizes the papers presented at the Oxford Workshop on Peace Building and Corruption, University of Oxford held March 22-23, one of which was on Liberia's anti-corruption efforts. The event was presented by the American Political Science Association.

Ninth annual Donner Prize shortlist announced

TORONTO, March 29 /CNW/ - The finalists for the 2006/2007 Donner Prize, the award for best book on Canadian public policy, were announced today by Allan Gotlieb, Chairman of the Donner Canadian Foundation.
