Realigning Global Governance: Regionalism in China’s Financial Rise
Amid what one might call institutional “devolution” or “fragmentation”, China’s contributions to regional development banks have increased dramatically over the past half-decade. This is seen in several areas: Growing financial and technical support to Asian programs of sub-regional integration, fund-raising drives of the AfDB and IDB, and regional trade and investment financing in all three regions. China’s financial rise has stirred interest in how the country may be reshaping the global economy.
Social challenges and progress in IBSA

The Balsillie Centre of Excellence
The Balsillie Centre of Excellence was announced on May 25, 2009, before a crowd in CIGI's atrium. The new Centre will house schools and programs in support of research and graduate studies in pressing international governance challenges. The major announcement included $100 million in funding from the Governments of Canada and Ontario and Jim Balsillie.
A Critical Look at Afghanistan
A recent article on Afghanistan by Ramesh Thakur, CIGI distinguished fellow and director of Balsillie School of International Affairs, sums up his impressions after a visit to the country. His commentary appeared on the op-ed pages of The Globe and Mail, The Hindu and The Japan Times. Despite his pessimism over the outlook there, Dr. Thakur says the international community cannot afford to give up on Afghanistan.
Crisis and Response: Whither International Financial Regulation?
