CIGI values its visitors’ and employees’ personal information and respects the need for security and trust surrounding its use and storage. This notice provides details as to how CIGI collects, stores and maintains personal information.
Information Collection and Use
Personal information is not shared with a third party, apart from the few exceptions detailed in this policy. Only people within CIGI who need access to the information from our websites can access it; for example, the people who send out a newsletter need to know your email address, but they will be the only ones who do.
We reserve the right to disclose your personally identifiable information as required by law and when we believe that disclosure is necessary to protect our rights and/or to comply with a judicial proceeding, court order or legal process served on CIGI.
This notice refers to the websites operated by CIGI (including, but not limited, to cigionline.org, policy-net.org, governancevillage.org, and balsilleschool.ca). These websites contain links to other sites that are not owned or controlled by CIGI. We are not responsible for the privacy practices or the content of such other sites.
If at any time on our websites you register for a newsletter, survey, or event, that information will be stored only for that express purpose and will at no point be added to a general contact list or passed to a third party. We may use this information to contact you if there are significant changes to the service or event you have signed up for.
Unsubscribe, Opt-Out or Modify Stored Website Information
If you choose to receive a CIGI newsletter or sign up for a recurring alert system, we will always provide a feature to unsubscribe to a newsletter or cancel any service. You can also email [email protected] at any time change or modify your personal information.
Cookies provide us with information about your use of the site that can help us improve the site and your experience with it. We may use both session ID cookies and/or persistent cookies. Both kinds are stored on the site visitor’s hard drive. If you reject cookies, you will still be able to use our site, but your ability to use some areas may be limited.
When you submit a contact or general inquiry form to CIGI through our websites, we collect personal information such as name, company name, and email address, so that we can properly respond to your request. Information submitted through general inquiry forms will be used only to respond to the inquiry or to fulfill requests submitted as part of the inquiry. At no point will this information be added to a general contact list or shared with a third party.
Information Collected Automatically
When you access CIGI websites, our servers automatically collect limited information for traffic monitoring and statistical purposes. We cannot identify you from this information. We collect the following:
- IP addresses of computers accessing the site
- The Operating Systems and the types and versions of browsers used to access the site
- The date and time the site is accessed
- The pages visited
- The key words used in the search engine
- The name and size of files requested
- The URL of any referring website
CIGI will annually review and update this policy to ensure it remains current and reflects changes to company policy and new privacy legislation. If significant amendments are made, we will send a notification by email to our contact list and post a notification to the website.
