Experts from CIGI and distinguished participants from seven African countries discussed the 317 sovereign debt restructuring in Africa, in addition to bilateral creditors and the future of Africa's economic health. |

CIGI Senior Fellow and Chair of Global Security David Welch investigates surging interest in crisis management "mechanisms" and considers how they can best be used to diffuse future conflicts in the Asia-Pacific region. Welch draws from lessons learned during the Cuban missile crisis and proposes new recommendations for addressing potential crises in the Asia-Pacific region. |

In September, CIGI hosts the Council of Councils Regional Conference in Ottawa, to discuss the management of the new global commons. To be attended by representatives from a network of 20 leading global think tanks, panel sessions will address Arctic diplomacy, Internet governance, conflict management and climate change, among other pressing topics. A final report, and videos of certain keynote speakers and participant interviews, will become available online. |
At a recent CIGI Signature Lecture, Professor Abdullahi An-Na'im, an expert in law and religion from Emory University addressed, "The Relevance and Irrelevance of Sharia to Human Rights." An-Na'im broke down widely held assumptions about Sharia and discussed the transformation of cultural and political attitudes of Muslims, in relationship to Sharia and human rights. |
In September, CIGI moved from the historic Seagram barrel warehouse into the South Wing of the architecturally award-winning CIGI Campus. The new location is not only ergonomically and aesthetically pleasing, but provides CIGI with ample space to grow.
