CIGI is now accepting applications for volunteers with the Events Department who can dedicate time to assist with at least one CIGI Public Event per month from September 2019 through to June 2020. You will be part of a team of approximately 20-25 volunteers.

CIGI hosts several public events throughout the year including Community Events (presentations and panel discussions on global governance and policy issues) and Cinema Series screenings. Volunteers are may also be asked occasionally for on-site assistance for CIGI workshops and conferences, student events such as our Global Youth Forum, and community open houses.

The Events Volunteer position is an exciting opportunity to develop and apply public relations and event execution skills.  Duties include event set-up and strike down, receiving guests, assisting with question and answer periods at lectures, selling books at author signings, staging assistance and serving food and beverage. From time to time there are project-based requests for research to be done on future speakers, outreach, local interest groups for various lecture topics being addressed, etc. Volunteers are also asked to assist with the distribution of outreach materials such as posters and postcards within Waterloo Region.

Limited volunteer positions are available. For successful candidates, a mandatory volunteer orientation session will be held in early September at the CIGI Campus.

Desired Qualifications

  • Professional and polished
  • Background or interest in International Relations, Global Studies, Political Science
  • Knowledge of or previous event planning/execution experience
  • Previous experience with the protocol involved with addressing government officials, diplomats etc.
