Bio

Young Kil Park is director of International Marine Affairs and Territory Research Center of Korea Maritime Institute (KMI).

He was a visiting researcher at the School of Politics, International Relations, Philosophy and the Environment at Keele University in 2003 and attended the Rhodes Academy in 2011. His current work focusses on the law of the sea issues in East Asia, such as maritime delimitation, territorial disputes and development of the continental shelf.

His recent publications in English include “Different Voices on Military Activities in the EEZ,” KMI International Journal of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries 3 (2011); “Republic of Korea v. Araye,” American Journal of International Law 106 (3) (coauthor; 2012); and “The Legal Assessment of the Illegal Fishing Activities of Chinese Fishing Vessels: A Focus on Detention of Foreign Vessels,” Korean Journal of International and Comparative Law, 1 (1) (coauthor; 2013).
