E. Richard Gold is a CIGI senior fellow, effective October 2016. He is also a James McGill Professor with McGill University’s Faculty of Law. 

Brenda L. Gunn

Brenda L. Gunn is a CIGI fellow. In this role, Brenda will explore comparative approaches and best practices for the implementation of the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (UNDRIP) internationally. She is also an associate professor in the Robson Hall Faculty of Law at the University of Manitoba.

Bernard M. Hoekman is a CIGI senior research fellow. Bernard is also a Centre for Economic Policy Research (CEPR) research fellow, where he co-directs the Trade Policy Research Network; a visiting professor at the School for Business, Management and Economics, University of Sussex; a senior associate of the Economic Research Forum for the Arab countries, Turkey and Iran; and a member of the World Economic Forum Global Future Council on International Trade and Investment

Valerie Hughes

Valerie Hughes

Valerie Hughes is a CIGI senior fellow and an adjunct assistant professor of law at Queen’s University. An expert in international trade law and international dispute settlement, she served as director of the Legal Affairs Division of the World Trade Organization (WTO) from 2010 to 2016 and as director of the WTO Appellate Body Secretariat from 2001 to 2005. Valerie also spent 22 years with the Government of Canada, and litigated before international courts and tribunals on trade law, investment law, and law of the sea matters.

Mark Jewett is a CIGI senior fellow. He is counsel to Bennett Jones LLP, where his practice focuses on domestic and international aspects of financial law. At CIGI, he will research and write on sovereign debt and cross-border insolvency.

Cally Jordan is a senior fellow with CIGI’s International Law Research Program (ILRP), effective July 2016. She is also the Estey Chair in Business Law at the University of Saskatchewan and an associate professor of law at the University of Melbourne.

M. Hafijul Islam Khan is a CIGI senior fellow, focusing on international climate change law and policy, and in particular on loss and damage resulting from climate change impacts. He is an environmental lawyer who has been working on legal issues related to the environment and climate change for the past 16 years.
