Roger Cox

CIGI Senior Fellow

Roger Cox is a CIGI senior fellow, effective September 2015. An expert in climate change law, he is partner at the Dutch law firm Paulussen Advocaten and was the lead lawyer for the Urgenda Foundation, which won a controversial decision in June 2015 when The Hague District Court ordered the Dutch government to cut greenhouse gas emissions by at least 25 percent by 2020.

Neil Craik is a CIGI senior fellow, effective June 2015. He is an associate professor at the University of Waterloo with appointments to the Balsillie School of International Affairs and the School of Environment, Enterprise and Development, where he teaches and researches in the fields of international and Canadian environmental law.

Jeremy de Beer is a CIGI senior fellow and a full professor of law at the University of Ottawa’s Faculty of Law, where he creates and shapes ideas about technology innovation and intellectual property, as well as global trade and development.

Armand de Mestral has been a CIGI senior fellow since 2014. An expert in international economic law, Armand is professor emeritus and Jean Monnet Chair in the Law of International Economic Integration at McGill University.

Meinhard Doelle

CIGI Senior Fellow

Meinhard Doelle is a CIGI senior fellow. At CIGI, he will be researching the impact of international shipping on climate change. His research will include a series of workshops and reports on this topic. Meinhard is a professor of law and associate dean of research at Dalhousie University’s Schulich School of Law, where he specializes in environmental and energy law, the environmental assessment process and climate change.

Giuseppina D’Agostino is a CIGI senior fellow, effective November 2016. She is an associate professor at Osgoode Hall Law School and is the founder and director of IP Osgoode, the Intellectual Property Law and Technology Program at Osgoode.

Director, International Law

As director of international law at CIGI, Oonagh Fitzgerald established and oversees CIGI’s international law research agenda, which includes policy-relevant research on issues of international economic law, environmental law, intellectual property law and innovation, and Indigenous law.

Patrícia Galvão Ferreira is a post-doctoral fellow with CIGI’s International Law Research Program. While at CIGI, she will research the evolution of transnational regulatory initiatives to address climate change and examine how Canada can contribute to promote compliance among emerging economies with large emissions.

David A. Gantz is a CIGI senior fellow who contributes to projects relating to contemporary trade and investment legal and policy issues. These include the Brexit process between the United Kingdom and the European Union, and innovations in international trade and investment law.

Markus Gehring is a CIGI senior fellow focusing on international economic law, trade and climate change, as well as trade, investment and Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). He is also the Arthur Watts Senior Research Fellow in Public International Law with the British Institute of International and Comparative Law and a fellow of the Lauterpacht Centre for International Law at the University of Cambridge.
