CIGI’s research laid the groundwork for the Group of Twenty (G20) leaders’ summit, and work continues to lead efforts to address gaps in global governance and explore critical issues around Canada’s role in the global economy. CIGI plays a key role in the Think 20 process and monitors and contributes research and analysis on the reform of international financial architecture, including the International Monetary Fund. CIGI contributes insights on law, politics and economics at international fora, including the UNFCCC Conference of the Parties on climate change.

Xingqiang (“Alex”) He is a CIGI research fellow. He is a research fellow and associate professor at the Institute of American Studies at the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS). His academic interests focus on domestic politics, with an emphasis on interest group politics in the U.S., China-U.S relations. He also studies interest groups in China and their roles in China's foreign economic policy making, China and the G20, China and global economic governance.

With a distinguished career in Canadian diplomacy — including posts as ambassador to Germany, permanent representative to the United Nations (UN) and adviser to various prime ministers, Paul Heinbecker is one of Canada’s most experienced commentators on foreign policy and international governance. With CIGI since 2004, Paul is also the director of the Centre for Global Relations at Wilfrid Laurier University.

Paul Jenkins is a CIGI Distinguished Fellow. He provides strategic advice to the Global Economy program, including activities related to CIGI’s partnership with the Institute for New Economic Thinking (INET) and broader macroeconomic issues. His own research focuses on international policy coordination and financial stability, with a particular interest in the G20. From 2003 to 2010, he served as senior deputy governor of the Bank of Canada.

Domenico Lombardi is director of the Global Economy Program and a member of the executive management committee at the Centre for International Governance Innovation (CIGI). He also serves on the advisory boards of the Peterson Institute for International Economics and the Bretton Woods Committee in Washington, and is a member of the Steering Committee of the Asian Economic Panel.

Bessma Momani

CIGI Senior Fellow

Bessma Momani is a senior fellow, joining CIGI in 2004. She has a Ph.D. in political science with a focus on international political economy, and is professor at the Balsillie School of International Affairs and the University of Waterloo. She is a 2015 fellow of the Pierre Elliott Trudeau Foundation, nonresident senior fellow at the Brookings Doha Center and a Fulbright Scholar.

Oluwatobiloba (Tobi) Moody is a post-doctoral fellow with CIGI’s International Law Research (ILRP). In this role, Tobi will research international law and governance pertaining to intellectual property with a specific focus on the protection of traditional knowledge and genetic resources.

Manuela Moschella is a CIGI Senior Fellow. Her research expertise focuses on international financial governance and regulation. She is the author of Governing Risk: The IMF and Global Financial Stability (Palgrave MacMillan 2010) and co-editor of Great Expectations, Slow Transformations: Incremental change in post-crisis regulation (ECPR Press 2013). At CIGI, Manuela conducts research on unconventional monetary policies.
