For many innovators, it’s difficult to know where to start with intellectual property (IP) rights. While many initially consider patents or trademarks, CIGI's research makes it clear that there are many IP options that can be employed to protect a product or service. "Foundations of IP Strategy", a new free Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) created in collaboration with Kitchener-Waterloo’s D2L Corporation, and now in beta testing, seeks to arm innovators around the world with the tools they need to navigate intellectual property options and legal issues. The self-study course was developed by CIGI Senior Fellows Myra Tawfik and Karima Bawa as part of the International Law Research Program and was recently featured in the Innovators in Waterloo Region Magazine.
