Balsillie School of International Affairs (BSIA)

The Balsillie School of International Affairs is a unique three-way partnership among CIGI, Wilfrid Laurier University and the University of Waterloo. It is a model of innovation, fostering the highest quality of academic experience and affording faculty and students the opportunity to work with the expertise and resources available at a private think tank.

Council of Councils (CoC)

CIGI is a member organization of the Council of Councils, which includes leading institutions from twenty-four countries, roughly resembling the composition of the Group of Twenty (G20). The network facilitates dialogue and consensus-building among influential leaders from established and emerging nations.

Datasphere Initiative

The Datasphere Initiative and CIGI partnered together to support the common mission of improving people’s lives in a data driven work. Collaboratively, they conduct research on innovative regulatory and technical initiatives with the goal of responsibly unlocking the value of data for all.

Forum on Information and Democracy

In November 2019, CIGI joined 10 other organizations to create the Forum on Information and Democracy, a new international entity led by Reporters Without Borders, to implement the International Partnership on Information and Democracy, an agreement signed by a coalition of 30 states on the margins of the UN General Assembly in 2018.

International Development Research Centre (IDRC)

The International Development Research Centre (IDRC) has partnered with CIGI and Ipsos on a project that gathers data relating to the online experiences of women and members of the LGBTQ+ community. By conducting statistical surveys, researchers have been able to study online gender-based violence (OGBV) and its effects, with a focus on Asia, Latin America and Sub-Saharan Africa. The information gathered from these surveys will help governments and development sectors design responses to OGBV by regulating social media platforms and through educational programs and legal recourse.

International Economics Association (IEA)

CIGI is proud to be an associate member of the International Economics Association, an organization dedicated to promoting mutual understanding among economists in different parts of the world. The IEA organizes scientific meetings, research programs and publications regarding problems of current, international importance.

Institute for New Economic Thinking (INET)

Announced in January 2011, CIGI’s partnership with the Institute for New Economic Thinking is committed to broadening and accelerating the development of innovative thinking that will lead to insights and solutions for the great economic and governance challenges of the twenty-first century.

Omidyar Network

Omidyar Network has partnered with CIGI to help put theory into practice on how to measure the value and contribution of societal and private data. As part of this partnership, CIGI will network with data scholars and practitioners across industries. The aim is to ensure new standards consider sector-specific needs for governance and regulation, and determine how to value data across national, regional and international borders, leading to shifts in practice and the data paradigm.
