China presses Canada to ratify investment deal

Canada should ratify its investment agreement with China as soon as possible to encourage more business with that country, departing Chinese ambassador Zhang Junsai said in an interview.

Chinese investors are keen to enter Canada’s natural resources, financial, real estate and information-technology sectors, he said, but slowed their investments last year to “digest” earlier moves into the country.  

Reflecting on his time in Ottawa, Mr. Zhang said his “only regret is that I could not see the ratification of the FIPA [foreign investment promotion and protection agreement]” by Canada.
