James Manicom, a Research Fellow at the Centre for International Governance Innovation in Waterloo, Canada’s new direction in Asia intersects with China’s increasing visibility in the region and its desire to secure energy resources for the remainder of this century. He says, “multi-level diplomacy by Canada can achieve a lot in Asia. We can make a difference through maritime lawyers and navigational aid assistance as well as facilitating dialogue. These are things Canada does well and it will be noted.”
