Waterloo, Canada – June 26, 2012 – The Centre for International Governance Innovation Campus (CIGI Campus) has won a prestigious international architectural award from The Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA).
RIBA has named the CIGI Campus, designed by Toronto’s Kuwabara Payne McKenna Blumberg Architects (KPMB), as one of the recipients of its International Award for Architecture. The CIGI Campus was one of 12 projects selected from around the world. The Waterloo building was the only Canadian project to receive the 2012 RIBA International Award, and KPMB were the only North American architects to do so.
“On behalf of CIGI, I wish to congratulate Kuwabara Payne McKenna Blumberg Architects on winning this award. Such prestigious international recognition speaks to KPMB’s ability to maximize form and function in creating such a unique space for global policy research,” said CIGI President Rohinton Medhora.
“Jim Balsillie's ambitious vision for an academic courtyard building to house the new CIGI Campus was a unique opportunity for us to reinterpret this traditional model as a contemporary learning environment for the new institution to grow and thrive,” said KPMB Partner Shirley Blumberg.
