LAST year, former health minister and then ambassador to Geneva, Switzerland, Therese Baptiste-Cornelis had her brief diplomatic career end abruptly in the fallout of an embarrassing speech she gave which was posted online.

Former foreign affairs minister Ralph Maraj described the debacle as a symptom of this administration's tendency of using the foreign service as a "dumping ground" for failed politicians.

In February of this year, Opposition Leader Dr Keith Rowley described as a "slap in the face" the appointment of parliamentary secretary for information Nicole Dyer-Griffith as Inspector of Missions.
