Waterloo, Canada – November1, 2012 – Does the world really have a monetary system – or not? “The Global Monetary Non-system” is the provocative title of a public keynote address to be delivered in Waterloo by José Antonio Ocampo, former United Nations Under-Secretary-General for Economic and Social Affairs and formerly Colombia’s Minister of Finance and Public Credit.
The Centre for International Governance Innovation (CIGI) invites media to cover this address at its annual conference, CIGI ’12 — Five Years After the Fall: The Governance Legacies of the Global Financial Crisis. The conference runs Nov. 9-11, at the CIGI Campus in Waterloo, and will convene some of the world’s top thinkers on the global economy and the challenges related to the continued fallout from the global financial crisis.
Mr. Ocampo will deliver his address on Friday, November 9 at 7:30 p.m. His remarks will be followed by a discussion with Steve Paikin, anchor and senior editor of TVO’s The Agenda with Steve Paikin.

WHO: José Antonio Ocampo is the director of the Economic and Political Development Concentration in the School of International and Public Affairs, and former United Nations’ Under-Secretary-General for Economic and Social Affairs. Prof. Ocampo is a fellow of the Committee on Global Thought and co-president of the Initiative for Policy Dialogue at Columbia University. In March 2012, Mr. Ocampo was nominated by Brazil as a candidate to lead the World Bank.
