OTTAWA – As he flies to New York City to accept a “world statesman” award, Prime Minister Stephen Harper is being accused of giving the United Nations the cold shoulder.

Harper will fly into the Big Apple on Thursday, joining hundreds of world leaders who are in town as part of the UN General Assembly meeting.

But Harper won’t make an appearance at the gathering, choosing instead to attend a soiree at New York’s glitzy Waldorf Astoria hotel where he will be honoured as World Statesman of the Year for 2012 by the Appeal of Conscience Foundation, an interfaith peace …
