Locals join literary elite

Two authors with connections to Waterloo Region join such renowned writers as Margaret Atwood, Michael Ondaatje and M.G. Vassanji in the literary sweepstakes for this year's Governor General's Awards.

John English, a history professor at the University of Waterloo and executive director of the Centre for International Governance Innovation, is a finalist in the English non-fiction category for Citizen of the World, the first volume of his biography of former prime minister Pierre Elliott Trudeau.

Meanwhile, Brian Henderson, a poet who is also director of Wilfrid Laurier Press, is a finalist in the English poetry category for Nerve Language.
