Custom officials working at Canada-U.S. border crossings are under “extraordinary pressure” to catch criminals, but there is no excuse for rudeness toward law-abiding travellers, the U.S. ambassador to Canada said Wednesday.”

Border guards have to be right every minute of every day, but “bad guys only have to be right once every 10 years,” David Jacobson told an audience at the Centre for International Governance Innovation in Waterloo.

Jacobson was responding to a question from a man who said he was a dual citizen, but worried that the fear factor was spoiling the sense of family and co-operation built up …
