The Canadian government is setting in motion evacuation plans to get Canadian citizens out of violence-torn Libya, and hopes to arrange the first flight out of the country to a European destination by Thursday.

Foreign Affairs Minister Lawrence Cannon said Tuesday the government is currently working on acquiring landing rights in Libya to send planes to pick up Canadians wishing to flee the protests, which seek the ouster of autocratic ruler Moammar Gadhafi.

Cannon said the government is also working with countries such as the United States, the United Kingdom, Australia, New Zealand and France, among others, to secure seats …
