Some analysts believe foot-dragging by Athens over the bailout talks contributed to the fourth-quarter contraction.

“The protracted stand-off with the creditors gives rise to uncertainty and this is hurting the real economy,” says Miranda Xafa, a researcher at the Centre for International Governance Innovation think-tank. “If this situation continues until May or June, this year’s expected recovery will be thwarted.”
