At the WTO last week, China complained that the recent U.S. "pressure and imposed restrictions on inward foreign direct investment on account of national security" undermines the credibility of the multilateral trade regime. This statement, coming from one of the most protectionist countries in the globe, would be laughable if its implications weren't so serious. For the powerful emerging nations, control of the world's key resources and infrastructure may be a hidden agenda. Fortunately, North Americans are wise to this possibility.
