Each year, the Centre for International Governance Innovation (CIGI) co-hosts a media panel, together with the Waterloo chapter of the Canadian International Council (CIC). The topic concerns some aspect of global affairs – and this year, we will hear from media executives about trends in coverage of world news.

All Canadian media are under business pressures, and facing technology challenges and opportunities. Some media are looking more at roving correspondents or short-term bureaus, rather than permanent bureaus. Some newspapers are relying more on wire services, and sending reporters only when they believe they can add “Canadian value.” How important is it to have Canadians reporting on foreign news?
