This highly specialized Canadian Arctic Marine Transportation and Governance Workshop will take place from May 1-2, 2013 at the Frobisher Inn, Iqaluit, Nunavut.

An invitation only event, the workshop aims to provide Canadian Arctic marine experts and stakeholders with an opportunity to exchange experience, knowledge, best-practices and ideas on prospects for Canadian Arctic marine transportation development.

Participants will focus on:

  • Canadian and international governance frameworks in which Canadian Arctic maritime interests are to be pursued, including the Arctic Council as well as  Arctic maritime developments in Russia, Scandinavia and the United States;
  • Obstacles (natural and man-made) to successful Canadian Arctic shipping operations (community re-supply, mining support, cruise tourism, trans-polar, etc.) and to the responsible development over the long term of a new Canadian Arctic maritime economy;
  • Current federal, regional and local government marine policies and activities;
  • Development of suggested Canadian Arctic maritime policies and programs that are necessary, affordable and implementable.
