CIGI will host a roundtable on CETA and the Future of Canada-EU Relations at the CIGI Campus in Waterloo, Ontario. This event will gather experts to discuss the future of the Canada-EU relationship with distinguished guests Mr. Dan Costello (Canada’s Ambassador to the EU) and Ms. Alexandra Bugailiskis (Canada’s Ambassador to Italy).

The Canada-EU Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA) entered into force in September 2017. This historic agreement gives Canadian businesses preferential access to a market of over 500 million consumers and has opened unprecedented scope for new trans-Atlantic investment, commerce, and labour mobility. Canadian and EU officials are now reaching out to communities across Canada to raise awareness about how the agreement can help their businesses grow.

CETA undoubtedly presents many new opportunities, but questions remain about how to realize the agreement’s full potential: What must governments and businesses do to ensure that CETA drives sustainable, broadly-shared economic development? How can Canadian and European businesses best leverage CETA’s mechanisms to facilitate investment and trade? How will the agreement fare as we transition to an increasingly digital and data-driven economy? And finally, now that CETA has come into force, what does the future hold for Canada-EU cooperation in general?
