Internet Governance Forum (IGF) is a multistakeholder, democratic and transparent forum which facilitates discussions on public policy issues related to key elements of Internet governance. IGF provides enabling platform for discussions among all stakeholders in the Internet governance ecosystem, including all entities accredited by the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS), as well as other institutions and individuals with proven expertise and experience in all matters related to Internet governance.  

The Ninth Annual IGF Meeting will be held in Istanbul, Turkey on 2-5 September 2014. The overarching theme for the meeting is: "Connecting Continents for Enhanced Multistakeholder Internet Governance." As part of the official proceedings, CIGI is hosting a workshop panel entitled, "Enhancing Digital Trust in the Post-Snowden Era." This panel hopes to identify principles that guide how lines are drawn around surveillance. These principles will reflect the diverse range of views in the Internet community.

A former Canadian deputy foreign minister, NATO ambassador and G7/G8 Sherpa, Gordon Smith is a leading expert on the evolution of the G20 and global summitry. Since joining CIGI in 2010 as a distinguished fellow, Gordon has been a key contributor to CIGI’s G20 research activities, events and publications. His current work focuses on the convergence of technology and global affairs.
