The Fund for Peace and CIGI hope to advance the development of solutions to the challenge of civilian protection by exploring the regional relevance of global norms to protect civilians and by promoting their application in conflict zones. This project will initiate a dialogue among civil society representatives from across the region and the political spectrum through a conference that will seek to discuss and endorse principles applicable to state and non-state actors alike in the area.
The conference will consist of 30-35 participants from the Middle East, including journalists, public intellectuals, university professors, former government representatives; former military personnel, representatives from major international organizations like the UN and the Arab League, and prominent scholars and thinkers relevant to this topic who reside inside or outside the Middle East.
