Two Perspectives on the Effects of Digitalization on Trade

We know that digitalization is changing trade, but we have little information as to how. Our two speakers will describe their research on the changes wrought by digitalization, from “datafication” to the rise of new embedded services using artificial intelligence.

At a time when policy makers are struggling to find common ground on digital trade rules, the Digital Trade Study Group brings together civil servants from Canada, the United Kingdom and the United States to examine topics related to digital trade. Following Chatham House Rule, the group is a confidential space for government officials to share ideas, learn from the latest research and expert analysis, and develop evidence-based proposals to strengthen international cooperation.

This study group is co-organized by the UK Trade Policy Observatory, a partnership between the University of Sussex and Chatham House in the United Kingdom; the Centre for International Governance Innovation in Waterloo, Ontario, Canada; and the Digital Trade and Data Governance Hub at The George Washington University in Washington, DC.
