The Right Honourable Paul Martin, Former Prime Minister of Canada, will deliver an opening address on strengthening multilateral institutions. Domenico Lombardi, Andres Rozental, and Leonard Edwards will act as panelists discussing world economic trends and the Chinese G20 summit. Barry Carin and Hongying Wang will participate in a roundtable discussion on the implementation of China’s 2030 Development Agenda, infrastructure connectivity and finance.

Andrés Rozental

Eminent Ambassador of Mexico

Andrés Rozental was a career diplomat for more than 35 years, having served his country as Mexico’s ambassador to the United Kingdom from 1995 to 1997, as deputy foreign minister (1988–1994), as the ambassador to Sweden (1983–1988). He was the permanent representative of Mexico to the United Nations in Geneva (1982–1983), and held responsibilities within the Mexican Foreign Ministry and abroad. Andrés founded the Mexican Council on Foreign Relations and since 1994, he has held the lifetime rank of eminent ambassador of Mexico.

Barry Carin is a CIGI Senior Fellow. He has served in a number of senior official positions in the Government of Canada and played an instrumental role in developing the initial arguments for the G20 and a leader’s level G20. Barry brings institutional knowledge and experience to his research at CIGI on the G20, international development, energy and climate change.

Hongying Wang (王红缨)is a CIGI Senior Fellow. She is also associate professor of political science at the University of Waterloo, specializing in international political economy and East Asian politics. At CIGI, Hongying is focusing on the limits of the exchange rate mechanism in addressing China’s role in global imbalances and China’s role in several areas of global economic governance.

CIGI Distinguished Fellow

Len Edwards joins CIGI in May 2013 as distinguished fellow, where he co-chairs and leads the Global Security & Politics research project on enhancing security cooperation between Australia and Canada in the Asia-Pacific. Previously, he held senior roles in Canada’s public service, including G8/G20 Sherpa, Ambassador to Japan and Korea, and Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs.
