Ongoing efforts to address social and economic challenges in the digital world have led governments to launch online regulations and renew voluntary compliance measures for digital platforms. Recent events, such as the information war in Ukraine, worldwide “trucker” convoys and the revelations of the Facebook whistleblower Frances Haugen have prompted governments to redouble efforts and highlighted the importance of collaborating to strengthen democratic norms.
This session will start with a presentation by members of the transparency working group about their recently published report and potential next steps. Members will engage with partners leading these efforts and will have an opportunity to discuss the impacts on their own work.
After a successful first year, the network also aims to use this opportunity to lay out and discuss its next steps, including plans to enhance collaboration and co-development, learning and engagement, and capacity building. The network’s first year of regular meetings and research, performance measurement and transparency working groups created a strong grounding for further work. The aim now is to build on those efforts to continue to find solutions to the seemingly intractable problems we face in addressing digital platform governance.
