Mokhtar Lamani is the representative of the Arab League in Baghdad. On behalf of the Arab League, he is working to reconcile the various groups within Iraq and to plant the seeds for smooth relations between Iraq and its neighbours in the region. He has had a distinguished career in international diplomacy. From 1998-2004, he represented the Organization of the Islamic Conference at the United Nations. He has also been part of the Secretariat representing the Arab League at the UN and has served as officer in charge of the Iraq-Kuwait dispute and mediator in prisoners of war exchanges, both for the Arab League. Mr. Lamani will share his insights on Iraq in conversation with Paul Heinbecker, Canada's former Ambassador to the United Nations and Director of Laurier's Centre on Global Relations.
