CIGI Distinguished Fellow Malcolm Knight will attend the Meeting of the Committee on International Economics and Policy Reform (CIEPR) to discuss the forthcoming report set to be released in September 2015. Malcolm is a member of CIEPR and contributing author of the report.
The goal of the CIEPR 2015 report is to provide a rigorous analysis of the interplay between foreign-currency debt and the corporate sector in emerging market economies. While fiscal positions in emerging economies have been quite robust, there has been a marked increase in corporate indebtedness and deterioration in the current account balance for a number of emerging economies since 2010. With the prospect of a tightening in dollar funding conditions, it is timely to assess whether the corporate sector in emerging market economies might be the core of future financial instability.
