The New Geometry of Global Summitry: The Future of the G20 (and the G8)

Monday, May 2, 2011 - 12:00 AM
CIGI, 57 Erb Street West, Waterloo, Canada
May 2
Participants—experts, practitioners and eminent persons from around the world—will reflect and comment on the emergence of the G20 as the self-styled world’s “premier economic forum” and its implications for global summitry. The conference will center on: 1) whether the G20 will become a “global steering group” and, if so, how will its legitimacy be assured; 2) the challenges of global governance and the need for summitry; 3) the future roles of the G8, the UN and the G20; 4) the future agenda of the G20. These are just some of the increasingly critical issues we wish to address. The conference is designed to flow with short interventions to allow for a conversation rather than a series of prepared remarks.
