China's WTO commitments in banking and insurance imply major changes if fully implemented by 2007 (end of WTO accession process). The Symposium aimed to better understand the Chinese banking and insurance systems, and discuss both the changes that China's WTO commitments imply as well as the implementability of the changes. The Symposium also focused on financial structure and growth performance in China.
