The objective of the meeting is to assemble advice and views and to promote policy-related research over the next two to three years from a broadly based group from around the world – including from China, India, Brazil, and Mexico and several other developing countries – to discuss the current state of the world trade system and to set out what issues and reform proposals might be most useful for global governance and prosperity in the years ahead. The experts will explore several scenarios emerging from the WTO Doha Round both in short and long term perspective, including the ‘built-in agenda’ for the WTO and a wider institutional reform of the trading system. The Canadian Institute of International Affairs (CIIA) and the International Development Research Centre (IDRC) are co-sponsoring this event.
