The Roundtable will explore Western Canadian Arctic marine transportation challenges and Canadian, regional and international governance frameworks through which Canadian Arctic maritime interests will have to be pursued given the warming of the Arctic Ocean. It will also assess natural and man-made obstacles to expanded Canadian and regional Arctic shipping operations (e.g. navigation and communications aids, charting, infrastructure including SAR, port facilities) and to the responsible development over the long term of a Canadian Arctic maritime economy in the Western Arctic (e.g. expanded resource development, fishing and marine tourism).
