CIGI and Peterson Institute for International Economics (PIIE) will co-sponsor this breakfast with Klaus Regling, Chief Executive Officer of the European Financial Stability Facility and Managing Director of the European Stability Mechanism.
Participants include CIGI’s Director of the Global Economy program Domenico Lombardi (Discussant), Reza Moghadam, Director of the European Department at the International Monetary Fund (IMF) (Discussant), Adam Posen, President of PIIE (Discussant).
After a review of the reasons for the crisis ESM Managing Director Klaus Regling, will appraise the euro area’s crisis responses. He will argue that the currency union is overcoming the crisis and that it is much more robust now to cope with future shocks. However, Klaus Regling will stress that further governance reforms are necessary to make economic and monetary union immune to future crisis.
