“If you don’t have facts, you can’t have truth. If you don’t have truth, you don’t have trust. If you don’t have these two things, you don’t have democracy.”

Maria Ressa on the Big Tech podcast

CIGI’s Big Tech podcast launched at an ideal moment to question how emerging technologies are reshaping our democracy, economy and society. The podcast, developed with The Logic and co-produced with former CBC Radio producers at Antica, has already tackled the Cambridge Analytica data scandal, accusations of election tampering and inquiries by international legislators into the power of social media platforms.

Hosts Taylor Owen and David Skok have explored the issues with high-profile guests. An excerpt from an interview with Rappler founder Maria Ressa on the dark side of technology was played nearly 20,000 times. British Member of Parliament Damian Collins spoke on joining forces among countries to regulate big tech, and David Carroll, a US professor featured in the Netflix documentary The Great Hack, described his fight to recover personal data from Cambridge Analytica.
