Cybercrime | Inside the Issues 6.2

In episode two of season six, CIGI Research Fellow Eric Jardine joins CIGI Senior Fellow and co-host David Welch for a discussion on cybercrime. Jardine discusses the cybercrime continuum. At one end of the continuum, internet infrastructure is used to launch online attacks; at the other end, users increasingly conduct illegal activity in the online forums and marketplaces of the dark web. While discussing the significant social costs of cybercrime, Jardine also notes that the technology that gives rise to the dark web is dual use, providing dissidents in repressive regimes with a tool to circumvent censorship and exercise their right to free expression.
