Inside the Issues 4.1 | ASEAN in the 21st Century

In the kick-off to season four, Inside the Issues co-host and CIGI Chair of Global Security David Welch welcomes Shaun Narine, Associate Professor, St. Thomas University for a discussion on the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN). After a brief history, Narine notes that while often perceived as an economic organization, ASEAN is more akin to a political pact focused on peaceful regional engagement. While the complexities of inter-ASEAN and regional dynamics make cooperation efforts increasingly complex, the organization is striving to create an ASEAN community focused on economics, culture and security by 2015.
