Open Source Democracy Promotion in Egypt

Each week, the Inside the Issues podcast series goes in-depth with a different CIGI expert on the most challenging issues in global governance. Hosted by CIGI Chair David Welch, these candid and timely discussions are available on the CIGI YouTube channel and on iTunes video and audio.

In episode 20, Ben Rowswell, visiting scholar at the Center on Democracy, Development, and the Rule of Law, discusses the transformative role of technology and social media in the politics of Egypt, the broader Middle East and other countries around the world. "I wouldn't limit this to countries that are going through upheaval," Roswell explains, "technology helps redefine state-society relationships in any country, including Canada. This could be completely reciprocal."
