Bio
Adam P. MacDonald is a former naval warfare officer in the Royal Canadian Navy, having served with both the regular and reserve forces. A Killam Scholar, he obtained his Ph.D. in political science from Dalhousie University in 2023. He also holds an M.A. from the University of Victoria and a B.A. from the Royal Military College of Canada. His research interests include American hegemony, strategic rivalry between the United States and China, naval policy and strategy and the geopolitical and economic environments defining the Indo-Pacific and Arctic regions. His work has been published in a number of academic journals, including Asian Affairs: An American Review, the Canadian Foreign Policy Journal, the Canadian Military Journal, International Journal and the Journal for Military and Strategic Studies; he has also contributed to several edited book volumes. Recently, he has worked in both Global Affairs Canada and the Department of National Defence, largely conducting research and analysis on China and its impacts on Canadian defence and foreign policy.
