Ken Dormuth holds a Ph.D. in theoretical physics from the University of Alberta and has more than 35 years of experience in science and technology related to energy and the environment. 

He joined Atomic Energy of Canada Limited (AECL) in 1971, working in the areas of reactor physics, nuclear fuel cycle analysis and environmental transport of radioactive materials. Eventually, he led the development of a risk assessment methodology for the geological disposal of radioactive waste. 

From 1994 to 1998, he was director of AECL’s Nuclear Fuel Waste Management Program, responsible for leading AECL’s participation as proponent in the public environmental review of its concept for nuclear fuel waste disposal. He retired from AECL in 2007 as director of Environmental and Radiological Sciences.
