Bio

Pier Carlo Padoan is a CIGI distinguished fellow and chairman of UniCredit. From 2014 to 2018, he served as minister of economy and finance and member of the Chamber of Deputies of the Italian Parliament.

Pier Carlo is currently vice president of Istituto Affari Internazionali and serves on the boards of the Institute of International Finance, the Associazione Bancaria Italiana, the Istituto Luigi Einaudi and the Committee for Corporate Governance of Borsa Italiana. He is a member of the Luiss Institute for European Analysis and Policy, the European Financial Services Round Table and the executive committee of Assonime. In May 2022, he became chairperson of the High Level Group on Financing Sustainability Transition.

Pier Carlo is former deputy secretary-general and chief economist at the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development and was executive director of the International Monetary Fund.

Pier Carlo retired as a full professor of economics at Sapienza University of Rome and previously held other academic positions at the College of Europe (Bruges and Warsaw), Université Libre de Bruxelles, University of Urbino, Universidad Nacional de la Plata, Chulalongkorn University and the University of Tokyo.
