James W. Hinton is a fellow with the Global Economy Program. His research at CIGI focuses on intellectual property (IP) and innovation. He has worked closely with the Council of Canadian Innovators on Canada’s innovation initiatives and Canada’s national IP strategy. In addition to his work with CIGI, James is the founder of Own Innovation and a proud supporter of Canadian technology companies. James is an IP lawyer as well as a patent and trademark agent before the Canadian Intellectual Property Office, and works directly for Canadian companies with the US Patent and Trademark Office. He is also an assistant professor at Western University where he teaches IP to engineers.
