Fifty-nine "Tomahawk" missiles later, the US's Donald Trump looks quite different. With one strike at a military base in Syria on April 7 America's isolationist "America first" doctrine positions Washington as a global policeman. Carefully calibrated intervention signals the US's return to the Syrian conflict after the passive failures of President Barack Obama. And it was welcomed by all with the expected exception of Russia and Iran.
